Aulowönen Church

Aulowönen Church

Aulowönen, renamed Aulenbach in the 1930s, was renamed once again after the Second World War — as Kalinovka. Coordinates of the site where the church stood: 54.805791, 21.777879.

A simple Protestant church, probably built in 1610–1622 (a pastor, Johann Neander, is mentioned in 1610). In 1709 the church burned down and was then rebuilt over eight years. It was about 33 m long and 13 m wide.

On the roof stood a wooden tower of 1813 with a hipped cupola, topped by a weathervane bearing the year of construction: "1813".

The windows were set in segmental arches, with a porch on the north side. The interior was very simple. The organ dated from 1859 and was built by von Scherweit (a new organ in 1932?). The bells dated from 1735 and 1779.

After the war the church was damaged and, with the help of local residents, quickly fell into ruin. It was probably razed to the ground in the early 1960s.
