Ballethen Church

Ballethen Church

In the mid-20th century Ballethen was renamed Sadovoye. Coordinates of the site where the church stood: 54.475044, 21.921399.

The church was founded in 1599; the building was half-timbered. In 1616 a new church was built of fieldstones. Its dimensions were roughly 23 x 14 m. A square sacristy (4.5 x 4.5 m) was added on the east side. The porch was in the middle of the south wall. A tower was set on the roof in 1729. The doors and windows were set in segmental arches. The ceiling was wooden, sturdy and gently curved.

The pulpit and altar were combined. The organ was installed in 1770 and decorated with Rococo ornament.

Gravestone

After the Second World War the church was intact and was used for farm purposes until the 1970s. Then it was demolished. Today the fieldstone foundation can barely be made out. The grounds of the old cemetery are used for a new one.
