The Kaiser Friedrich III Memorial Church

The foundation stone of this church was laid in 1905, and it was consecrated in 1907.

It was built to a design by Karl Siebold. The interior was divided into two naves — the main one and a side aisle on the north. The ceiling was wooden and trapezoidal. The windows had stained glass depicting Peter and Paul, paid for by donations from members of the congregation. The altar and pulpit were made of wood in the Neo-Gothic style. The organ was the work of the Königsberg organ builder Nowak. The church had three bells.

The Kaiser Friedrich Memorial Church in Kalthof

The church was built of fired brick in the style of the medieval churches of the Teutonic Order; it had a tower crowned by four gables and a four-sided spire, and a strikingly decorated west gable.

The congregation of the Kaiser Friedrich III Memorial Church split off from the Altrossgarten congregation.

During the Second World War the church was badly destroyed in the fighting in the city. In the post-war period it gradually fell into ruin and was dismantled by local residents for building materials. In 1985 small fragments of its walls and the remains of the tower, up to 3 metres high in places, could still be seen. At the end of the 1980s it was finally demolished, and a block of flats was built on its site.
