Mallwischken Church

Mallwischken Church

In the mid-20th century Mallwischken was renamed Mayskoye. Coordinates of the church: 54.729136, 22.225449.

In 1729 Grasemück, pastor of the colonists, personally asked King Frederick William I to have a church built. The king donated 7,000 thalers for its construction. The church was built in 1731, but in 1748–50 repairs were needed, and in 1827–29 the church was restored, its walls being renewed almost completely.

The church was an octagonal plastered brick building with rectangular windows and three entrances.

It had a high roof covered with plain tiles. On the roof stood a wooden tower with a round gallery. The tower roof was galvanised. Inside, eight plaster-coated wooden posts supported the wooden vault of the ceiling and the balconies running along all the walls. Church plate: a silver chalice, gilded inside, of 1737. The organ was made in 1796. The church had three bells.

After the war it was intact. Soon afterwards, presumably in the 1950s, it was demolished.
