Nordenburg Church

Nordenburg Church

Nordenburg was granted town rights in 1404. After the Second World War Nordenburg lost its town status and became the settlement of Krylovo. Coordinates of the church: 54.329031, 21.558871.

The church here was built in the 14th century (according to A. Boetticher) or in the 15th century (according to W. Hubatsch). After a fire in 1705 the church was rebuilt. It was a fieldstone building with a tower, plastered. In 1854–1856 its walls had become dilapidated; they were pulled down to the window sills and built anew. Inside, the church had three aisles. The wooden ceiling of the central nave rose above the side aisles. The carved altar and pulpit were made around 1730.

An organ by Casparini was installed in 1770 and renovated in 1912. The church had two bells, cast in 1819.

In 1945 the town and the church were practically intact. Today no more than 15–20 houses remain in the village. The church was destroyed too. Only the roofless shell of the tower, a beautiful arched entrance to the tower and fragments of the walls have survived.
