Postnicken Church

Postnicken Church

The church was founded in the days of the Order. Its patron was the king. In the 16th century, soon after a fire, it was restored using the old walls. In the 20th century the village was renamed Zalivnoye. Coordinates of the church: 54.912016, 20.831962.

The tower was built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. The nave is partly of fieldstone and partly of brick in Gothic bond. The walls are thick, with two small buttresses on the west. No separate chancel. After 1764 the simple pulpit was combined with the carved altar of 1632. Next to the altar hung a carved angel made around 1700. The organ was installed in 1858. The church had two bells.

In the 1970s the church looked splendid from the lagoon and was practically intact, though in a terrible state. It was used to store farm produce.

By 1988 it had lost its tower and the sacristy attached on the east. The roof was in poor condition. Some of the windows had been bricked up. For a long time the church was used as a storehouse; in 1994 it was abandoned. The area around the church is overgrown, and nothing is left of the cemetery.
