Reformed Church of Tilsit

Reformed Church of Tilsit

Construction of the Reformed Church began in 1898 to a design by the government building councillor (Regierungs- und Baurat) Kanitzke. The church was consecrated on 18 May 1900. Coordinates of the church: 55.084825, 21.888434.

It was a Gothic Revival building of fired brick, with a tower bearing a tall spire with four small spirelets at the corners. The interior was divided into a main nave and side aisles with galleries. The church had vaulted ceilings. To the left of the arch separating the chancel from the nave stood the pulpit.

The church was damaged during the Second World War. Up to the 1970s it gradually fell into ruin, although the roof was still in place. By 1975 almost the whole church had been dismantled, except for the tower without its spire, and a DOSAAF club was built on its site. Today only the spireless tower survives.
