Stockheim Church

Stockheim Church

After the Second World War Stockheim was renamed Zaytsevo. Coordinates: 54.474313, 20.873296.

The parish church was built in two stages: around 1400 and in the second half of the 15th century. Without a chancel, rectangular, with a sacristy to the north, the tower to the west and a porch to the south. The older eastern part of the church is of fieldstone. The receding stepped gable, divided into small sections, is very richly decorated.

Bell from Stockheim Church

A majestic tower to the west, with a stepped pointed entrance. Its upper part is handsomely articulated by slender blind windows.

To the east and west, stepped gables of six sections with wind openings. The sacristy has star vaults. The porch to the south was enlarged in 1600. To the east, a crypt of 1792. Inside the nave, a flat painted ceiling. The altar dates from around 1690, the pulpit from around 1640, the organ from 1712–14. The bells date from 1729 (in the photo above), 1847 and 1850.

After the Second World War the church was intact. But by 1970 it had been destroyed by local residents. As of 1990 fragments of the foundations could barely be made out. The school standing nearby has survived.
