Zimmerbude Church

Zimmerbude Church

After the Second World War the town of Svetly grew up on the site of the fishing village of Zimmerbude. The church stood on the street now named after Gorky. Coordinates: 54.677490, 20.140672.

From 22 June 1855 this simple half-timbered building served as a church for the residents and holidaymakers of the town of Cranz (Zelenogradsk). It was then dismantled and moved to Zimmerbude (Svetly), where it was re-erected in enlarged form in 1899. A sacristy on the east side, a porch on the west. The windows were set unusually high. To the south-west stood a separate bell tower with two bells.

After the Second World War the church was intact. It was plastered over and used as a club and cinema. It probably stood until the 1960s; then it was demolished, and a sports centre was built in its place.

In the nearby village of Peyse there was a Baptist chapel (see the picture below).
