Svetlogorsk and Pionersky

Svetlogorsk is a unique town in the forest. All visitors to the Kaliningrad Region agree that it is the cosiest and most respectable town in the region. This is where people live who can afford peace and comfort. By the time the seaport in Pionersky, designed to receive tourist ferries, is completed, the town will have merged with Svetlogorsk.

Pionersky

Svetlogorsk's satellite town differs from the other resort towns of the northern coast of Sambia in having a fine beach right in the town. Along the beach runs a promenade, along which you can walk a couple of kilometres to the state residence. Among the local sights is the original "Rotonda" café, where we will perk ourselves up to continue our journey. On the way from Pionersky to Svetlogorsk we will see the seaport under construction, which will soon be receiving numerous tourist ferries. Further along the road we can make a 15–20 minute detour into the valley of the Salmon Brook (the Chistaya river), where the mystical Stone of Lies has stood since prehistoric times.

Two huge granite boulders between which, according to legend, only honest people can pass; if a liar tries to do so, thunder will strike and the stones will close together...

Svetlogorsk

On arriving in Svetlogorsk, we will first have lunch at one of the local restaurants, of which there is a practically limitless choice, and then see all the main landmarks. We will start at Lake Tikhoye, where the history of Rauschen (today's Svetlogorsk) began. We will stroll through the quarters of splendid villas and admire the many surviving pre-war architectural monuments. Then, passing the "Yantar Hall", the focus of the region's cultural life, we will ride the panoramic lift down to the promenade. On the way back we will take photos by the famous sundial and go back up into town by cable car.

If we still have the energy, we will wander a little more through the cosy streets of the old resort and admire the seascapes from its high, steep shores.
